You mentioned you were programming computer games; were you also writing any sort of fiction at that time?

Ernest Cline,: Some of the first things I ever wrote were skits for my Boy Scout troupe to perform at campfires, and I would write short stories for school, but it wasn’t until high school that I would sit down to try and write things. But it always ended being the thing I was best at in school; I was able to be funny, and be funny on paper. When you’re a kid, you look for what gets you attention or impresses other people, and so I was drawn to doing it.
