Des nouvelles de Stan Nicholls

Message par jerome » jeu. avr. 05, 2007 7:57 am

Stan Nicholls vient de boucler une trilogie de SF (Dreamtime) avec The Diamond Isle.

voici ce qu'il vient de dire :

"I was sitting in my study one November evening with loads of fireworks going off outside [in celebration of Guy Fawkes Night]—it was like a rerun of World War II—and I thought, 'Supposing magic was like that?' What would it be like to live in a world where you were constantly surrounded by a blizzard of sorcery? I then got to thinking why magic would be so prevalent, and reasoned that it could be because it fulfilled a cultural function. The flaunting of wealth. The exercise of power. Even the creation of lifelike chimeras as companions or agents of deception. I was intrigued by the idea of a society immersed in layers of illusion. I also liked the allegorical possibilities, the opportunity it gave for commenting on our present societal and political issues. Which is something I try to weave into all my work."

One of the protagonists is Reeth Caldason, who is one of the last of his kind, Nicholls said. "His people, the Qalochians, are a martial race who have suffered generations of persecution, and pogroms have reduced the diaspora to a relative handful of rootless wanderers," he said. "In a world where everyone takes magic for granted, Reeth is an exception. He hates sorcery and distrusts it. For reasons he doesn't understand, he's lived well beyond his allotted span, hardly aging, and suspects magic is the cause. He is driven by the need to find an end to what he sees as the curse of longevity and to avenge the massacre of his tribe by unknown forces."

Il travaille maintenant sur une autre trilogie à propos de son cycle Orc.
