"Our idea was that 'post-cyberpunk' includes fiction that takes the subject matter of cyberpunk fiction—computers, infotech, biotech, transnational economics, a global perspective—and shows it in different social contexts, such as the middle class, going beyond the realm of isolated and alienated counter-cultural icons," he said. "But also that post-cyberpunk would include stories that deliberately used the icons of cyberpunk in order to attack some of the assumptions behind [it]. So post-cyberpunk for us is basically two kinds of stories: those that challenge cyberpunk while still working within its preferred territory and those that extend cyberpunk concerns into new territory."
