Lord of the Rings author's home to be demolished

A seaside bungalow which once belonged to the Lord of the Rings author JRR Tolkien is to be demolished. Tolkien retired to the three-bedroom bungalow, which backs on to Branksome Chine in Poole, Dorset, with his wife Edith. He sold it to Stephen Frankel for £23,000 in 1972 and moved to Oxford after his wife died. James Dean, of developers Cranbrook Homes, bought it after Mr Frankel put it on the market for £1m last November. Poole council gave permission to flatten it and build two four-bedroom homes. Mr Frankel will sell some of Tolkien's belongings before the home is demolished."
