L’association des auteurs et autrices d’horreur (The Horror Writers Association, ou HWA) vient de dévoiler la première sélection de titres concourant pour les différentes catégories du Prix Bram Stoker.
Les Bram Stoker Awards, nommés en l’honneur de l’auteur de Dracula, récompensent chaque année des romans d’horreur. Publiés originalement en anglais, les récits peuvent être en lice dans une ou plusieurs catégories.
Pour éviter le côté « compétitif » de ce genre de prix, la HWA récompense les auteurs pour leurs « réalisations remarquables » (superior achievement) et non le « meilleur roman de l’année ». Les règles du concours sont également faites pour rendre les ex æquo possibles afin que tout travail soit mis en valeur.
À la suite de leurs lectures, les plus de 1 800 membres de la HWA sélectionneront les finalistes et les éventuels lauréats à partir de cette liste préliminaire. Les résultats de ce premier tour devraient être publiés le 23 février 2023 ou aux alentours de cette date.
